Palmer Endoscopic Award of the William Beaumont Gastrointestinal Society 1972 (established in his honor); the Edward J. Ill Award of the NJ Academy of Medicine (1975); the first annual Laureate Award from the US Army Chapter of the American College of Physicians (1986); Master of the American College of Physicians 1986 (MACP); President's Award of the American Cancer Society, Warren Co. Unit; received the Legion of Merit from the Army for "inspiring leadership, perseverance and outstanding professional ability" 1965; Endoscopy Suite named for him at East Orange Veterans Administration Hospital and the Library at Hackettstown Regional Medical Center; he was the author of 14 medical books (translated into Spanish, German, French and Japanese) and innumerable articles in Medical journals; he was the inventor of the gastroduodenal scope (Eder-Palmer Gastroscope); he played the flute for 80 years and was a flute teacher and composer; member of the Amateur Chamber Music Society; played with various community orchestras in the United States and Germany, Dartmouth Symphony Orchestra, German-American Symphony Orchestra, Montclair Symphony Orchestra and the Hackettstown Community Orchestra/Band; he was an Eagle Scout, expert dry fly fisherman, woodsman and farmer; he was one of the most revolutionary thinkers and prolific writers in the history of gastroenterology with a world wide reputation; an influential teacher and beloved doctor with many famous patients including President Dwight D. Eisenhower. Dr. Palmer also volunteered as the Dr. for the Washington Township Police Dept.
