Mal L. Strowbridge
Died: Jul 20, 2019
Strowbridge

Mal Lewis Strowbridge passed into eternity on Saturday, July 20th, 2019. He was born in Newton, New Jersey on October 28th, 1947 to Ken and Laura Strowbridge of Hackettstown, New Jersey. Mal was a lifelong resident of Hackettstown, a 1967 graduate of Hackettstown High School.

He was employed as a shipping manager at Elastimold Corporation for many years before retiring in 2006.

Mal married Priscilla Sweatt of Newton, a nurse.

A proud member of the Hackettstown Fire Department's Hose Company, he was also an honorary member of the Hackettstown Rescue Squad in its earlier years.

During his years, he actively participated in drag racing, was a member of the NHRA, and was a loyal New York Yankee fan.

Mal enjoyed being involved with mountain biking with his son, attending competitions, as he was always a supportive father.

Throughout his life, he enjoyed spending time at his lifelong home, raising his children and helping to raise his grandchildren.

In recent years, he spent a great deal of time interacting with old friends as well as new, whether on social media, over a cup of tea at the local diner, or reminiscing about the days of old at a friends garage.

Known by all as a simple and kind man, Mal professed his faith in Jesus Christ at the time of his baptism, many years ago. In recent years, he had faithfully attended Christ Baptist Church with his family.

Mal is survived by his wife Priscilla, of 46 years, and his three beloved children, sons Kyle, Jared, daughter Sheila and her husband William Wiles III, granddaughters Malorie Skye Wiles, Brielle Renee Strowbridge, and grandsons Logan Wiles and Wyatt Wiles, Sister-in-Law Dorothy Dalley, Niece Diana Gardner and Cousin Deidra Strowbridge.

"When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid: yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet."

Proverbs 3:24 KJV

A visitation will be held Friday, July 26, 2019 from 4:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Cochran Funeral Home, 905 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ 07840.

A graveside funeral service will be held Saturday, July 27, 2019, starting at 11:00 am at Rockport Cemetery, Rockport Road, Mansfield, NJ with Rev. Derek Makri officiating.

I’m soooo sorry for your loss. Mal you were a great man. When you came across someone’s path you always embraced them with a kind and caring heart. I know Sheila and I were the cause of some of them gray hairs with our bad influence of each other’s behaviors lol. I will miss your call outs on FB. I will miss our chats about racing and trucking. Well it’s now your time to move on to your next job of life and be the best guardian angel for your family that anyone can have. You will be deeply miss here on earth but never missed in our hearts. RIP my dear friend

“ Let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the Author and Finisher of our faith”- Hebrews 12:1-2 My dearest husband Mal, Between us there is, for now, a great gulf fixed. BUT by Gods grace,”I will see you in the morning”. Your memory will linger forever, especially at “231”. I miss and love you more than words can say. Always your “Best Nurse” “Prilly” xoxo

Gramp, I’m still so in shock at the abruptness of you leaving. Gram and I truly miss you and love you. Gram has always loved you the hardest. She has stuck by you through everything. My one prayer is that you heard all of our voices on your last moments with us, as I know how eagerly you wanted to go. We were there, we’ll always be here. You’ve brought our family together in an astounding way, and we yearn to continue to make you proud. You have so many that love you and share such fond memories. Gramp, help me stay strong for gram. As we sit together reading these condolences, what once seemed like vague memories of ours, now turned into vivid and clear ones. I’ll see you soon gramp, from here on out every goal, every shot, and every homerun is just for you. I miss you gramp ❤️

Mal, you were a man of few words but had a heart of gold for your family and friends. You had a great laugh and smile. Priscilla and you were such amazing examples of what the wedding vows “for better, for worse” truly meant. You loved and protected me as your own. I’ll miss seeing you watching Jared’s every move while he fixed his bike or a car. I’ll miss seeing on in front of your house on the porch, waving hello. I’ll miss your delicious potato salad. I will miss you but I know I’ll see you in heaven...and that gives me a great peace.

A fond memory of Mr. Strowbridge was mountain bike events. Even though I was racing against his son, who is a life long friend, Mr. Strowbridge was kind enough to feed me water bottles when my mom wasn’t feeling well at a race. That exemplifies the character that Mr. Strowbridge lived in life and raised in a true man, and best friend, Jared. May he rest in eternal peace.

Farewell -dear brother-in-law Mal. You were a kind, humble and sweet man. A man of few words but who showed your caring for others in many ways. You shall be missed by many but we have that blessed assurance from our Lord that we will see each other again on that Wonderful Day in Heaven. For we grieve, but not as those who have no hope. With much love to all the family- 'Aunt' Dottie
