Mary Ellen Elizabeth (Delaney) McVeigh, age 83, of Hackettstown, NJ, formerly of Hainesville, NJ, passed away Monday, December 19, 2016.
Born in Waterbury, Connecticut on February 7, 1933, Mary Ellen was the daughter of the late James and Helen (Burns) Delaney. In addition to her parents, Mary Ellen is predeceased by her beloved husband Charles McVeigh of nearly 50 years, by her son Mark Thomas McVeigh and by her sister Margarette Delaney Holda.
Mary Ellen worked at Selected Risks Insurance Agency in Branchville, NJ as a clerk for several years in her early married life and then was a homemaker for most of her life. She volunteered for the Delaware Valley United Methodist Church with many of their fundraising dinners. Mary Ellen enjoyed crocheting blankets for her family, friends and neighbors. Mary Ellen and Charles always made time for friends, neighbors and family. Their door was always open to anyone to stop by and sit a spell.
Surviving family members include her son Carlton McVeigh and wife, Valerie of Fort Myers, Florida; her daughter, Wanda Bazur of Hackettstown, NJ; five grandchildren: Christopher Bazur; Beth Andrews and her husband Justin; Matthew Bazur; John McVeigh and his wife, Holli; Brenna Weaver and her husband, Troy; and two great-grandsons, Shawn and Luke Andrews.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Mansfield Emergency Medical Services, 301 Airport Rd, Hackettstown, NJ 07840, St. Labre Indian School, Ashland, MT 59004 , or to any US Veterans organization.
A private celebration of life memorial service will be held at a later date.
