Dominick R. Scalera
Died: Feb 21, 2016
Dominick R. Scalera, age 20, Ventnor, NJ died Sunday, February 21, 2016 at his residence, after losing a hard-fought battle with addiction. Dominick was born July 14, 1995 in Morristown, NJ. He is the beloved son of Robert B Scalera and Monika Vaccaro.
Dominick grew up in the Allamuchy and Green area, and attended Newton High School. He spent one year in San Diego, CA, before returning to NJ, settling in the South Jersey area. Dominick held several jobs since high school, both in San Diego, CA and in South Jersey. His last employment was in masonary with Ocean Construction in Ocean City, NJ
Dominick enjoyed skateboarding, baseball, and building with Legos when he was younger. He spent a lot of time at the beach and took some amazing pictures of sunsets.
Dominick was a generous young man with a loving and sensitive spirit. He touched the lives of many people.
He is survived by his father, Robert B Scalera and mother, Monika Vaccaro; Stepmother, Michelle Scalera, 2 Brothers, Tyler Craig and Jon Scalera, Paternal Grandmother Carmella; Maternal Grandmother Renee Vaccaro; Stepfather, Les Smith, 2 Stepsisters, Erin Smith and Devin Smith; Godfather and Uncle , Mark Vaccaro; Godmother and Aunt, Barbara Scalera, and many more loving Aunts, Uncles and Cousins.
He is predeceased by his Paternal Grandfather, Robert Scalera and Maternal Grandfather, Vincent Vaccaro.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 1:30 pm on Saturday, February 27 at Good Shepherd Church, 48 Tranquility Road, Andover, NJ with Father Martin McDonnell officiating. Calling hours will be Friday, February 26 from 4 - 8pm at the Cochran Funeral Home, Inc., 905 High Street, Hackettstown, N.J. 07840. Monika and family, words cannot express how sorry I am for your loss. I want my memory of Dominick to be a happy one. I'll never forget when we were little, we were outside playing, dressed up in nice clothes, and Dominick threw worms at me. I still laugh about it to this day! When we ended up in the same home room and English class freshman year of high school, Dominick always made sure to make me laugh! He was a good person, and I hope he is truly at peace now. I grew up with Dom in Tae Kwon Do, we took the black belt test and got our black belts together, he was such an amazing person. Myself and my family send our condolences to his family and friends, may he rest in paradise

We saw Dominic grow up and enjoyed him playing baseball with our boys. Our hearts break for our loving friends Rob and Michelle and for the entire Scalera and Vaccaro families. Rob and Monika - Words will never be enough to express the sympathy in our hearts. Dominick touched all of us in a special way. From the young boy at baseball games to communions and school events....He will always be remembered for his infectious smile and eyes that captivated his spirit and his heart. There was always an unspoken connection between Jared and Dom and it was felt in our home.
