Valerie was born on November 6, 1925 in Newark, NJ. She grew up in South Orange, NJ, and attended Miss Beard’s School and Bennett Junior College. In 1948, she married Alfred M.W. Saupe Jr., and together they had four children, Ted, Bill, Peter and Dana. She was the proud grandmother of Tyler, Zachary, Daniel, Christian, Megan, Gabrielle, Alexandra and Simon.
Valerie was a loving and devoted wife and mother, as well as a dedicated volunteer for many years: VP for The United Fund, Babies Alumni (the Women’s Association) of Morristown Memorial Hospital and Secretary of the Woman’s Division of the Madison Golf Club. She was a member of The Madison Presbyterian Church for more than forty years, where she served as Deacon.
Valerie will be dearly missed by her husband of almost 66 years, Alfred Saupe, her three sons: Theodore C. Saupe and his wife Beth of Athens GA, A.William Saupe and his wife Pamela of Asheville NC, Peter Saupe and his wife Susan of Monona WI, and her daughter Dana (Saupe) LaGueux and her husband Steven of Long Valley, NJ, her eight grandchildren, her nieces, her nephews and dear friends. A memorial celebration of Valerie’s life and love of her family and friends will be held on May 10th at the Long Valley Presbyterian Church at 4:00 pm.
