 William (Bill) H. Thompson, age 91, grew up in Morris County, NJ then moved his family to Sussex county where he lived most of his life, died Friday, January 25, 2019 at Warren Haven Nursing Home, Oxford, NJ.  William was born July 20, 1927 in Dover, NJ to the late Alfred MacDougal and Martha E. (Hendershot) Thompson.  In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jean H. (Behler) Thompson in 2009, and his 2 brothers, Sidney and Ralph. 
 
William served proudly as a Sergeant in the US Army during World War II from 1945 to 1946.  He was previously employed by Picatinny Arsenal, Dover, NJ as a Tool Maker retiring in 1982.   William was a former member of the 1 st Baptist Church, Newton, NJ, where he drove the Sunday school bus, he enjoyed antiques cars, hunting, fishing and traveling.  In addition, he loved spending time with his children and grandchildren and he and his wife in their younger years were foster parents to several children. In the 1950's Bill was a member of the Budd Lake Fire and Ambulance Company where he helped with fund raising for the new building.
 
He is survived by 2 loving daughters, Linda Thompson, Sheryl Thompson, 5 cherished grandchildren, Lt. Col. Retired Timothy Paul Bergmann and wife Dee, Mark A. Bergmann, Stephen W. Bergmann and wife Janeen, Danielle Semon, Sgt. Jared Semon, 5 great grandchildren, Mallory, William, Donovan, Tristan James, Teagan Rae, a devoted nephew, Keith and niece, Catherine and many other nieces and nephews.
 
At the family’s request all services are private.
 
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St Jude Childrens Research Hospital, Memorial & Honor Program, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942 in memory of William.

My sincere condolences. I prayer you know Bill has been reunited with Jean in heaven. Prayers and strength to both family and friends as changes in life continue.

It was such a pleasure knowing Bill. He was a great man and I will miss him dearly. It was always my pleasure caring for him, he will be missed. Deepest condolences to you all.
