George J. Salotti, 97 of Long Valley, formerly of Secaucus died Sunday April 26th at the New Jersey Firemans Home in Boonton where he was a resident for the last three years. George was born in O'Hara Township, Pennsylvania, a son of the late Charles and Erminia (Lai) Salotti. George was a veteran of the United States Navy serving during World War II with the rank of Seaman First Class. He was an inspector with the Jersey City Water Works for many years before retiring. Now an Exempt fireman he proudly served with the Chicora Park Volunteer Fire Department in Secaucus for many years and achieved the rank of Captain. George also helped build an addition to the firehouse. George was an avid boater and loved being on the water or working on one of his boats in the marina. He was a longtime proud member of the US Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 32 in Secaucus, NJ. He was also a member of the Senior Citizens Clubs in Chester and Long Valley. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his wife Gertrude who died in 1997. He is survived by his two daughters; Georgene Pennington and her husband Steven and Lois Smith and her husband Lou; eight grandchildren, Joseph, Gregory and Sandra Galazin, Michael, Jason and Seth Pennington, Rebecca Copenhaver and Stephanie Taylor. Eighteen Great Grandchildren;, Brooke, Jeffrey, Olivia, Turner, Olivia. Wyatt, Nevaeh, Charlotte, Rylan, Liam, Luke, Rowan, Ashlyn, Colin, Alanna, Giavanna, Caitlin and Savannah. Funeral services are being held on Thursday April 30th, 10:30 am at the Cochran Funeral Home 905 High Street, Hackettstown, Friends may call on Wednesday April 29th from 4 - 8 pm. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery Mausoleum in Newton. In Lieu of Flowers donations to the NJ Fireman's Home, 565 Lathrop Avenue, Boonton, NJ 07005 would be greatly appreciated.
