James R Crawford, age 70, of Blairstown, formerly of Long Valley, NJ died Saturday, May 2, 2015 at Forest Manor Health Care Center, Hope, NJ. Mr. Crawford was born June 11, 1944 in Morristown, NJ. He is the son of Barbara (Dobbins) Crawford and the late James G.R. Crawford. He was employed by Washington Township Police Department, Morris County, NJ as a Police Officer for many years retiring as a Lieutenant. After his retirement he drove a school bus for the Washington Township Schools Board of Education. James was an avid hunter, fisherman, and trapper. He enjoyed construction as a hobby and restoring antique cars. He was the Captain of the “Cop Out” boat for charter fishing, was a member of the Safari Club International, the Porsche Club of America and the United Bow Hunters. He is survived by his wife: Judith (Slanina) Crawford, 3 sons; Jeffrey Crawford and wife Gina, James Crawford and wife Loan, Steven Crawford, his mother; Barbara (Dobbins) Crawford; 1 sister; Linda Kabis and husband Henry, 2 step-son; David Ippolito and wife Mary, Mark Ippolito, 1 step-daughter; Jennifer Wimberly and husband Jay, 11 grandchildren; Courtney, Brooke, Morgan, Kaeli, Jeffrey, Evan, Elyse, Matthew, Kevin, Nate and Jackson. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 6, 2015 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Cochran Funeral Home, 905 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ 07840 with services beginning at 8 pm. Cremation will be private. For those desiring donations may be made to the Frontotemporal Dementia Research at www.mayoclinic.org in memory of James.

I am so sorry to hear of Jim's passing.. He was a great part of our town and made us feel safe! He always made me laugh with his crazy stories of hunting and police work. May God comfort you at this time, I know that Jim is with Him. Thoughts and prayers!

My Wife Robin & I were very saddened to hear of Jim's passing, and can only ask our LORD to grant you comfort in this time of mourning that HE alone can provide. I did quite a few trips with Jim as a bus driver. I lost touch with him after leaving the area and even though I moved to the Blairstown area, I was not fortunate to bump into him in these last 5 years. I am saddened to know that he has passed on...Rest in the everlasting arms of your Creator Jim. My prayers are for his family and friends that knew him well and are affected by his earthly departure. May you find comfort now and go forward in peace and wellness.

Dear Judy, I want to say I'm sorry for your loss. Even though it was hard I did enjoy taking care of James. He will be greatly missed. Keep looking to God for all your help and comfort. I'm so sorry for your loss. Jim, was such a great person, he will live on in many fond memories forever. So many amazing stories of Washington Township Police involve the character, "Big Jim".
