John Kowalczuk

John Kowalczuk, formerly of Hackettstown and Great Meadows, NJ died at Newton Memorial Hospital, Newton, NJ on August 31, 2014, he was 89 yrs. old. Currently, John lived in the Bell Reeve Assisted Living Residence for the past 4 years coming from Greentown, PA. Born in Great Meadows, NJ he was the son of the late Stephen & Pauline Dupnock Kowalczuk. Mr. Kowalczuk retired many years ago from the Elastimold Corporation of Hackettstown having worked there for over 30 yrs.
John proudly served our country in both the U.S. Army in Korea from ’50 – ’52 receiving the Korean Service Medal with 2 bronze stars and the U.S. Navy from ’53 – ’57 having been stationed aboard the U.S.S. Altair. He was member of the V.F.W. and American Legion, Blue Ridge Post #164, both of Hackettstown, NJ. John was also a lifelong member of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Church, Great Meadows, NJ. A talented artist having studied at the New York Art Institute, John liked drawing and painting then giving his artwork to friends and family.
He is survived by several Nieces & Nephews and their families.
A memorial visitation will be on Thursday, September 4,2014 from 6-8pm. A memorial Service with military honors will take place on Thursday, September 4, 2014 at 6:30pm at the Cochran Funeral Home, 905 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ, 07840. Interment will take place at the Union Cemetery, Hackettstown, NJ at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, please consider making donations to the Korean War Veterans Association, P.O.
