Michael J. Acocella, age 73, died Sunday, June 14, 2015 at Hackettstown Regional Medical Center. Michael was born in Jersey City, NJ and moved across NJ several times until finally residing in Allamuchy for the past 26 years. He joked that he never got beyond the two rivers, the Hudson and the Delaware. He was the son of the late Paul and Theresa (Calleo) Acocella. He married Anna Frisch and were blessed with two daughters, Theresa Ann and Bernadette Ventrillo. Michael graduated Seton Hall University with a degree in classical languages. He continued his education at New York University and received his Master's degree in health care administration. He worked at Seton Hall for 15 years and left as Vice President of Administrative Services. He opened his own business and worked at it for the next 20 years. During his work life he enjoyed many interests including international travel, World War II history, astrophysics and especially US naval history. Michael was always a good neighbor serving as president of the board of education, assisting the needy and bringing the sick homemade meals. Visitation will be held at the Cochran Funeral Home, 905 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ on Thursday, June 18, 2015 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A funeral Mass will be held at Good Shepherd Roman Catholic Church, 48 Tranquility Road, Andover, NJ on Friday June 19, 2015 at 11 am with Monsignor Martin McDonnell officiating. Burial will follow at Good Shepherd Cemetery.

Mike served the community of Allamuchy well. He came forward to serve on the Board of Education and then stepped up to lead it during the challenges of growth.He was an expert on many subjects and had a great sense of humor. My prayers are with his family in this time of mourning.

My sincere condolences to the Acocella famley. Mike and I were pool buddies and also started a Hearts card club here in the Valley. He took me to the Bronx New York to the great Italian delicatessens and bakeries. Besides being extremely intelligent, He was a good Cook and had a wonderful sense of humor. I will miss him greatly.
