Joyce A. Shakespeare died peacefully at home, Friday, July 26, 2019, after a valiant battle with cancer.  She was surrounded by her loved ones.  


Joyce was born on September 11, 1939 in Reading, PA.  She moved to Long Valley with then husband James in 1968.  She was employed by NIA & Region Oil before retiring several years ago.  Joyce was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, Long Valley, NJ.

She is survived by her daughter, Pam Shakespeare-Mackey and her husband Ken, son, Buddy Shakespeare and his wife Sandy, grandchildren, Kyle, Ryan and Briana Shakespeare.

In addition to her parents Joseph W. and Ruth A. (Hass) Mench, Joyce was preceded in death by her beloved companion, Carl H. Burd.

She loved watching her grandchildren play sports, cooking family dinners, and traveling with Carl.  Joyce and Carl were huge Yankee fans and named their two cats Jeter and Cano.  She enjoyed spending time with her close friends and routinely attended numerous performances at the Hunterdon Hills Playhouse.

All services are private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in her memory may be made to the Memorial Sloane Kettering Cancer Center, 1275 York Avenue, New York, NY 10065.

I am so very sorry for your loss. Joyce truly was a wonderful lady and will be missed by all. She was so strong and fought like no other. Wishing you peace and comfort at this difficult time.

Joyce was one of the nicest, most decent, and unselfish persons we have ever known. People of her caliber are few today. She was a class act. Our condolences go to her family. Kathy and Barry Mayberry
