George J. Kopp, Jr., age 87, of Hackettstown, NJ died Thursday, March 5, 2015 at home. George was born June 6, 1927 in Jersey City, NJ. He is the son of the late George J. and Georgia (Valk) Kopp, Sr.
He served in the US Navy during World War II from 1945 to 1946. He was employed by NY Bell, Manhattan, NY as a Supervisor. George served as Mayor of Hardwick, NJ for 3 years, was on the Hardwick Township Planning Board for 6 years and was a member of the Hardwick Planning Board. He was in office at the time that the Town Hall was built, in addition George was honored by Christie Todd Whitman for the merger of the Bahaquarry. George enjoyed making stained glass and was a member of the Stained Glass Association of America and a member of the Board of Trustees for the House of Good Shepherd.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years: Jean (Robinson) Kopp, his daughters: Beverly Botelho , Judith Bivino, Diane Carl and her husband Mitchell; 2 sisters;f Lois Robertson and Janet Finamore, 6 Grandchildren, 2 Great Grandchildren, 4 nieces and 2 nephews.
Cremation was private. A memorial service will be held at the House of Good Shepherd, 798 Willow Grove Street, Hackettstown, NJ on Saturday, March 14, 2015 at 11 am.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to House of the Good Shepherd, 798 Willow Grove Street, Hackettstown, N.J. 07840 in memory of George.
