John A. “Jack” Lance, 85, of Stroudsburg, PA passed away on Monday, June 15, 2015 at his residence with his loving family by his side. Born May 30, 1930 in Middle Valley, NJ (Morris County), Jack was the son of the late Archibald E. & Camella Izzo Lance. Mr. Lance has lived in Stroudsburg since 2000 coming from Long Valley, NJ where he had lived and worked the majority of his life. 

 Mr. Lance was the owner of Jack Lance & Company, Long Valley, NJ for over 50 years having served the public as a Tax Consultant and accounting specialist. He proudly served our country in the New Jersey National Guard from 1947 -1968 obtaining the rank of Captain and was the former commander of the Hackettstown Armory when the new facility was built. Member of the American Legion Post #164 in Hackettstown.  An active member of Highlands Presbyterian Church of Schooley’s Mtn, NJ .  An accomplished runner, Jack was a member of the USA Track & Field Masters Team having participated in the World Games in South Africa where he won a silver medal in the 4x100m relay and competed in 100m sprints, 300m hurdles, long jump, triple jump having won over 500 medals during his Masters career. Member of Musconetcong Lodge #42 F. & A.M., Budd Lake, NJ, and was an avid outdoorsman and deer hunter. On occasion, Jack loved to bet on the horses and loved all types of sports especially Golf that he played every day.  Graduate of Hackettstown High School Class of ’48 where he played baseball and was captain of the basketball team. In the 1970’s Jack ran for County Freeholder and the State Assembly with a slogan of “Don’t Chance it, Lance it!”  Of all these things, he always put his family first. John was also involved with numerous other community service organization.

He is survived by two sons, Scott L. Lance of Newton, NJ & Darryl Lance of Bethlehem Twp., NJ. A daughter, Amanda M. Wood and husband Michael of East Rutherford, NJ.  Jack was a proud and loving grandfather of Emily & Riley Lance as well as a great grandfather of Joseph & Azalea. One brother, Jason Lance of Schooley’s Mtn., NJ.  Mr. Lance was predeceased by his loving wife, Carmen Martinez in 2009 and a brother, Ledyard Lance many years ago.

Viewing hours will be held at the Cochran Funeral Home, 905 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ, 07840 on Sunday, 6-21-15 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm. The Funeral Service will be Monday, 10:00am at the funeral home. Interment to follow at the Fairmount Cemetery, Fairmount, NJ. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.cochranfuneral.com. To Jack's family, I am Peg Grover McConnell, class of '47. I knew Jack well from school and he sure was a class cut up. I missed the last reunion of class of 48 and 47 but I heard that Jack did a good job as mc. I am sure he will be missed by all of his family. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

dear Darryl and family, we truly enjoyed meeting and knowing your father for the last several years. we had many enjoyable dinners and conversations with him. We are all truly sorry to learn of his passing. We send our very deepest sympathy to you, Riley and other family members. Reading his obituary tells us what a remarkable man he was. Rest in peace Jack.

My prayers and deepest condolences to all Jack's family and friends. Oh the stories Jack will share in Heaven with his loved ones who arrived before him. I am certain his energy will shine around us all to give us strength as we mourn and give us light to see he is healthy, happy and running like lightening now.
