Cara J. Spendley, 69, of Great Meadows, NJ passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 24th, 2017 at Overlook Medical Center in Summit, NJ surrounded by her loving family. Cara was born in Dover, NJ and was the child of the late Joseph and Alvira Spendley.
A long-time resident of Great Meadows, NJ, Cara was last employed by Heath Village Retirement Community as a Security Guard where she was loved by both residents and staff. Prior to that, she was self-employed in construction for over 30 years.
Cara will be remembered as a loving and devoted spouse, parent, sibling, and friend-there were few people in this world who she did not get along with. She was a courageous, fun-loving, optimistic person who worked as hard as she played. She enjoyed camping, trips to the beach, taking long walks with her husky, and most of all, spending time and laughing with her family and friends. When her family went through troubled or dark times, Cara was always there giving unconditional love and support. This world was truly blessed to have been touched by Cara’s warm heart and contagious laughter.
Cara is survived by her wife, Susan; her children, Paul, Chris, and Lauren; her sisters, Arline, Claire and Phyllis, her 2 step-grandsons, her dog, Hailey, her cat, Furby, and many close friends.
A memorial service will be held on September 27th, 2017 at Cochran Funeral Home in Hackettstown, with visitation from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm and a Memorial Service at 8 pm.
My deepest sympathies to Sue, Chris and Lauren and family. I was so sorry to hear of the loss of Cara. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Cara was indeed a loving, caring & supportive friend ~ about as down to Earth a person as you're likely to meet......but my favorite memories will always focus on Cara as hands-down, one of t-h-e funniest people I've truly ever known. A delivery of a great story (often focused on her days as an inner-city landlord)..........like no other................often egged on & embellished by co-hort Norm Willis. Great times! To have known Cara is to have the very thought of her bring an instant smile to your lips. "Sorely missed" doesn't begin to say it, but she absolutely will be and Heaven just got a l-i-t-t-l-e liveler.
