Donald E. Burd
Died: May 27, 2017
 Donald E. Burd, age 90, died peacefully at home, Don grew up in Long Valley, NJ before moving to Sun City, CA.  Mr. Burd was born in Westfield, NJ. He was the son of the late Elmer Lewis and Grace (Anthony) Burd.  In addition to his parents Donald is preceded in death by his loving wife, Alice nee-Benoist Burd who passed away November 2, 2005.

He served proudly in the US Air Force from 1946 to 1950.  Donald was previously employed by CHA, Inc. of Irvine, CA before retiring in 2015 to the NJ Fireman’s Home, Boonton, NJ. Don was a genuine person, just a good old guy who everyone well liked.  He was the king of sayings, he was a social butterfly and extremely charismatic.  Don enjoyed a good cigar and loved coffee, gardening his geraniums and listening to music.  He was a huge fan of NASCAR and building model airplanes.  He was a former member of the Long Valley Fire Dept., No.1, the Morris County Masonic Lodge, the Zion Lutheran Choir and the Boys Scouts of America.   

The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to the staff of the NJ Fireman’s home for the care that they showed their father, they will be eternally grateful.

He is survived by his devoted children:  Donald Burd and wife Angelita, Amy Sapio and husband John, Peter Burd and wife Kim, Merry Beth McMonigal and husband Thomas, Scott Burd and wife Carolyn, a brother; Charles Burd and wife Susan, a sister; Betty Rush, 16 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and 2 more on the way.

A funeral service will be held at Zion Lutheran Church, Long Valley at 11 am on Saturday, June 3, 2017.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Long Valley Fire Dept. No. 1, 5 Farview Avenue, Long Valley, NJ  07853 in memory of Donald.

Well,Don made it to a good old age 90. He will be missed but leaves fond memories.That will never leave you.We have good memories of Don and know him as a good guy and Brither in Law. God Bless you all.David And Clara Benoist.
