Elizabeth J. Batson, age 96, of Succasunna, NJ, formally a life long resident of Mount Olive Township, NJ passed away on Thursday, January 3, 2013 at Merry Heart Nursing Home, Succasunna, NJ. Elizabeth was born January 18, 1916 in Flanders, NJ. She is the daughter of the late Frank and Mabel (Berry) Seward.
Elizabeth was an Executive Secretary at Picatinny Arsenal, Dover, New Jersey retiring in 1981.
She enjoyed her family, all types of handwork, gardening, crossword puzzles, reading her Bible, the New York Yankee ballgames and keeping her home in pristine condition. Her determination, work ethic and true grit leaves a legacy of deep respect by all who knew her.
Elizabeth is pre-deceased by her husband of 50 years, Edward C. Batson in 1983 and her son, Robert in 1990.
Survivors include her son, David (Mary) Batson; her daughter, Betty Jean (Robert) Hofmann; and her daughter in law, Barbara Batson all of Budd Lake, NJ. She is also survived by her 6 grandchildren, Scott Hofmann, Hackettstown, NJ; Jo Ann (Steven) Mc daughlin, FL; Deborah (Michael) Bloom, Succasunna, NJ; Shelly (Michael) Doyle, Stanhope, NJ; Sharon (Edward) Anthony, Plainfield, NJ. Also survived by ten great grandchildren; Stephanie, Michele and Michael Bloom, John, Jamie, Jacqueline Mazza; Katie Doyle, Taylor and Luke Anthony and John Davenport; also 6 great great grandchildren; Avah and Ayden Bloom, Brianna Mazza, John Donohue and David and Julianna Davenport.
She is also survived by 2 sisters, Vera Burd, Phillipsburg, NJ and Caroline Batson, Stanhope, NJ. 2 sister in laws, Alberta Batson, Mansfield Township and Alice Seward, FL.; brother in law Henry Batson, Stanhope, NJ and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held 10:00 am on Monday, January 7, 2013 at Cochran Funeral Home, 905 High Street, Hackettstown, N.J. Burial will be in Hackettstown Union Cemetery.
Calling hours will be Sunday, January 6, 2013 from 2:00 - 4:00pm & 6:00 - 8:00 pm at Cochran Funeral Home, Inc., 905 High Street, Hackettstown, N.J.
