Dr. Robert “Shane” Fitzpatrick of Hackettstown, New Jersey went to be with his Lord on May 15, 2017, at 56 years of age.

Shane was born in Petoskey, Michigan, to Robert D. Fitzpatrick and Marylu Gilbert Fitzpatrick. He graduated from Trinity High School in 1978 and from Washington and Jefferson College (B.A. 1982). He was then fortunate to have received a Rotary International Scholarship which allowed him to begin studies abroad. He attended Essex University in England, and graduated with a Ph.D. from Edinburgh University in Scotland in 1989.

Dr. Fitzpatrick taught at several colleges throughout his career. For the past 20 years, he was Associate Professor of Political Science and International Studies at Centenary University, Hackettstown, New Jersey. After 9/11, he became a specialist in global security issues and was a frequent consultant on counter-terrorism training for the New Jersey Department of Homeland Security. Dr. Fitzpatrick was also a frequent commentator on national and global events for regional media outlets.

Shane is survived by his mother, Marylu Fitzpatrick; his sister, Dana O’Korn; his brother-in-law George O’Korn; a niece Riley Fitzpatrick O’Korn; a nephew Casey Fitzpatrick O’Korn and a loyal companion Tina Tang.

A memorial service will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church, 213 Main Street, Hackettstown, New Jersey 07840, on Saturday (May 27th) at 2:00pm, with a reception to follow.

Robert Gall, 82, of Budd Lake, NJ passed away on Friday, May 5, 2017. Bob was the beloved husband of Carol Gall and the father of three daughters; Anne-Marie, Jennifer, and Robyn.
He was born and raised in Jersey City, NJ and became a Jersey City firefighter in 1958 and married Carol in 1959. In 1968, Bob additionally took on real estate development and opened an office in Mount Olive Township.
For the next three decades he bought and sold property and became a residential developer. The first home he built was in Netcong, NJ then 2 on Old Township Road in Flanders, NJ, 1 on Elizabeth Lane in Budd Lake, NJ before partnering with Sanitation Construction to demolish the White Birch cottages on Netcong Road in Budd Lake. Together they built six more beautiful homes in their place.
Bob retired of JCFD in 1991 after 33 years of service. He was a veteran of the US Army and a Fourth Degree Knight of Knights of Columbus, Assembly #1562 of Netcong, NJ.
Bob is survived by Carol, his devoted wife of 57 years, his sister; Dianne Meehan, his brother John Gall, his three daughters; Anne-Marie, Jennifer, and Robyn, his son- in- law, Anthony Di Bernard and three grandchildren; Bryan, Breanne and Brendan. He was greatly loved and will be sorely missed by his family and friends.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Cochran Funeral Home. Frederick Michael Gallagher, age 83, of Palm Harbor, Florida, formerly of Allamuchy, NJ and Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, died Tuesday, May 2, 2017 at home surrounded by his family. Fred was born March 8, 1934 in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. He is the son of the late Michael W. and Harriet (Checkett) Gallagher. Fred was predeceased by his wife, Sarah, sisters; Mary DeMartini, Eleanor Mazza, Monica Emanuele, and baby brother, Dennis Patrick Gallagher. He is survived by his daughters, Mary Gallagher and Kathleen Jaye and her husband David, 1 granddaughter, Grace; his brother Michael Gallagher and numerous nieces and nephews.


Fred had a distinguished 47 year career as an institutional investment management professional. In 1952, he began his career in the Trust Department of Chemical Bank where he rose to Senior Investment Officer. Fred was a Corporate Officer and Investment Officer with the Atlantic Richfield Company, the Director of Pension Investment Management at Bristol-Myers, the Senior Vice President and Chief Investment Officer of the Summit Trust Company, a Managing Director of Equitable Capital Management, and a Senior Vice President, Equity Investment at Continental Asset Management. He retired as a Senior Vice President of Mutual of America Capital Management in 1999.


Fred was a graduate of Brooklyn College, with a BA in Economics and Finance and studied at the NYU Graduate School of Business. He was a member of the New York Society of Security Analysts, a founding member of the Pension Sponsor Group NYC, and served on the Investments and Executive Committees of the NJ Bankers Association. He was on the Board of Directors of Centre Engineering Corporation and The New Jersey Ballet Company. He was a frequent speaker at investment industry conferences and was published in industry periodicals.


Fred was a devoted husband and father. He loved spending time with his granddaughter, Grace, who was the light of his life. In 1968, he bought the very first lot in the new development of Panther Valley and became the first homeowner. In June 1969, Fred became the first member of Panther Valley Golf and Country Club where he was on the Board of Trustees serving on the Golf Committee, Chairman of the Green and Grounds Committee, the Membership Committee, and the Board Nominating Committee. Fred was also the Editor and Publisher of "The Allamuchy Times, “established in 1970 as the first newsletter for Panther Valley residents.


An avid outdoorsman, Fred greatly enjoyed fly fishing, hiking, skiing, golf, and nature. He taught himself how to hand tie flies made of feathers for trout fishing which he & his brother sold to the original Abercrombie & Fitch when it was a sporting goods store. In his youth, he was a Boy Scout, and won a writing contest in 1946 where he earned the honor of being sworn in by Mayor O'Dwyer as New York City's 450,000th Boy Scout at the Waldorf Astoria. He loved museums, art, photography, history, Native American art, Colonial Williamsburg, and travel. He excelled at trivia and loved old movies. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.


The funeral Mass will be held on Friday, May 5th, 12 noon at St. Mary’s Church of the Assumption R.C. Church, 305 High Street, Hackettstown, N.J. with Father David Pekola officiating. Burial will be in Good Shepherd Cemetery, Andover, NJ following services.


Visitation hours will be 10am-12pm Friday May 5th at Cochran Funeral Home, 905 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ.

Sally Langgaard Vilardi

Sally Vilardi (nee Langgaard), 68 of Long Valley, NJ passed away on Monday, April 24 following a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Livingston, NJ, Sally was raised in Chatham, NJ from the age of 7 and graduated from Chatham High School in 1966. After high school she earned an Associates degree from Penn Hall Junior College then attended the National Academy School of Fine Arts in New York on a scholarship.

Afterward, Mrs. Vilardi married in 1970 and attended Art Students League in New York City while living in Jersey City. The Vilardis then settled in Long Valley, NJ where for over 35 years they lovingly restored a 1870 farmhouse, and raised two children. In Long Valley Sally made many lifelong friendships with her neighbors, colleagues, and members of the community. Gardening was a passion for Sally and the plot surrounding the farmhouse was like a canvas where she artfully tended to an ever-changing landscape of vegetable and flower gardens. Botanical drawing and painting was also a lifelong interest which brought Sally much joy and her works have decorated the homes of many friends and family members.


Sally was co-owner of the Schooley’s Mountain General Store from 1993 to 2005. After selling the General store in 2005, Sally and her daughter Kathryn opened and operated a pie shop café in Long Valley for three years.


Sally was the beloved mother of daughter Kathryn and son Jason; devoted sister of the late Jean Martin; aunt of niece Stephanie Sahr (nee Martin) and nephew Eric Martin; Loving partner of Ron Mead; She is survived by a maternal uncle, former Governor of New Jersey, Brendan Byrne as well as many fond Byrne family cousins.


Relatives and friends may visit with the family at Cochran Funeral Home, 905 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ on Sunday, May 7, from 2:00 until 4:00 at which time a celebration of life will be held.

Bert A Barrier, age 70, of Budd Lake, NJ died Sunday, April 23, 2017 at Morristown Memorial Hospital. Bert was born September 7, 1946 in Dover, NJ. He is the son of the late Shephard and the late Jean (Boyd) Barrier.

He served in the Army during the Vietnam War from 1971 to 1972.

He is survived by his wife: JoAnn (Tassinaro) Barrier, son and daughter in law, Kevin and Joanna Barrier; son and daughter in law, Keith and Amy Barrier; daughter and son in law, Kelly and Michael Pizzirusso; brother and sister in law, Norman and Edna Barrier; 7 Grandchildren.

Wendy Ann LaMotta, age 52, of Hackettstown died Sunday, April 16, 2017. Wendy was born December 14, 1964 in Orange, NJ. She is the daughter of the late John LaMotta and Jacqueline (Hansen) Seeko.

She is survived by her mother Jacqueline (Hansen) Seeko, her step father, Bernard Seeko, one sister and brother in law, Lori and Warren Leary, Many cousins, and many Nieces and nephews.
