Born in Belfast, Ireland in 1929, she emigrated to the United States with her family in 1930. She grew up in Brooklyn, NY and moved to Budd Lake, NJ in 1946 before graduating from Netcong High School in 1948. She is predeceased by her parents, Robert J. and Margaret (McComb) Nelson, her brothers, David and George Nelson and her son-in-law, Julius Olweck.
Peggy married the late Elmer W. Pensack in 1954. She worked in the office of McGregor Manufacturing in Dover, NJ during the 1950s, and the Pocketbook Factory in Netcong, NJ during the 1960s. She was also involved in the operations of her brother, George’s, roller skating rink, Kenvil Arena in Kenvil, NJ during the 1970s. By the 1980s she became employed by Greystone State Hospital and managed their Duplicating Office until her retirement in 1999.
In the 1950s Peggy was among the founding members of Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Hackettstown, NJ. She went on to live in Hackettstown for more than 30 years. In 2017 she moved to Frey Village, a Lutheran retirement facility in Middletown, PA.
Throughout her life Peggy was actively involved in a variety of clubs, community groups and volunteer organizations, which included: Gethsemane Lutheran Church, Morris County Girl Scouts, NJ Department of Human Services Office of Developmental Disabilities, the Warren Wheelers Square Dancers, the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML), Greystone State Hospital Retirees, Warren County Senior Citizens, Hackettstown Medical Center Auxiliary, and the Women’s Club of Hackettstown.
Peggy is survived by her loving family: three daughters Mildred E. Pensack and her husband Michael L. Lutz, Roberta A. (Pensack) Prievo and her husband James V. Prievo, Debora J. (Pensack) Olweck, one son, Elmer R. Pensack and his wife Gloria Pensack, three grandsons, Christopher J. Prievo, Brendan P. Lutz and his wife Dana, Connor P. Lutz and a variety of nieces and nephews.
Viewing will be at the Cochran Funeral Home 905 High Street in Hackettstown, on Thursday, September 20, 2018 from 1-3 pm and 5-9 pm.
A funeral service will be held at Gethsemane Lutheran Church, 409 E. Baldwin Street, Hackettstown, NJ on Friday, September 21, 2018 at 11 am.
