 Richard J. Laverty, age 87, a Hackettstown resident for the past 53 years died Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at Hackettstown Regional Medical Center.  Mr. Laverty was born December 10, 1931 in Dover, NJ to the late Francis and Winifred (Cunningham) Laverty.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his daughter, Marie Zimmerman, 5 brothers, William, Maurice, Francis, Jr., Myles, Robert and 1 sister, Gladys. 

He served proudly as a Corporal in the US Army during the Korean War 1952 to 1954.  Richard was previously employed by M & M Mars Manufacturing, Hackettstown, NJ as the Gold Seal Chief Engineer retiring in 1992.  He was a member of the American Legion, Post 164, Hackettstown, NJ. Richard was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and will be greatly missed. 

He is survived by his loving wife, Helen (Pedrosa) Laverty, two daughters, Diane Laverty, Kathleen Taylor and husband John, two sons, Michael Laverty and wife Robin, Richard Laverty,  a brother, John "Jack" Laverty and wife Ruth, a son in law, David Zimmerman, seven grandchildren; Heather, Lori, Jason, Kilian, Kieran, Allison, Kaitlyn, seven great grandchildren,  Ethan, Elias, O'Ryan, Jemma, Atlas, Julia and Saige.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 am on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at Cochran Funeral Home, 905 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ with Father Antony of Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Mary, Hackettstown officiating.  Cremation is private.

Visitation will be Friday, January 11, 2019 from 4-8 pm at Cochran Funeral Home, Inc., 905 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ.

For those desiring donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 299 Cherry Hill Road, Parsippany, NJ 07054 in memory of Richard.

Sad to hear of Dick's passing . He was my former supervisor at candy. He was always a straight shooter . We played tennis over the years he was a athlete and strong competitor. His knowledge was unsurpassed . God rest his soul.
