On the night of August 25, 2019 Erik S. Backmann took his last breath after a year long fight to cancer in the comfort of his home surrounded by his family.
Erik was born in September of 1969 to James and Julia Backmann in Jacksonville, FL. Erik received his degree in HVAC, he was an avid golfer and devoted NJ Devil's fan. William I O'Hern, age 69, of Long Valley, NJ died Thursday, August 22, 2019 at Merry Heart Nursing Home of Succasunna, NJ. William was born September 7, 1949 in Livingston, NJ. He is the son of the late William H. and the late Norma (Cornine) O'Hern. He married Ellen Schoen.

Peter Dughi of Independence Township, NJ died August 16th 2019. He was a 1974 graduate of Hackettstown High School and a member of the NJ National Guard from 1974 – 1980. He was also the sole proprietor of Dughi’s Welding Service for many years.
He is survived by his wife Karen (nee Robbins), his daughter Linda, his son Brian (and partner Paula Schmitzer) and his best four-legged friend Casey. Also, his mother Lorraine, brother Scott, sister Yvonne Peterson, and several nieces and nephews. His father William preceded him in death. Remembrance of his life will be private among the family. Thomas W. McSweeney Jr. "Tom" passed away peacefully on August 11, 2019 surrounded by loved ones. He was born in Springfield Massachusetts to the late Thomas W. McSweeney Sr. and Edith (Roberge) McSweeney. He worked as a Machinist at Berkshire Industries and Jet Tool for many years. He also worked for Stewart's Sandwiches and was known as "The Cookie Man," delivering sandwiches and snacks all over New England. Roma Pizza and Mrs. Murphy's Donuts were his two favorite food groups. He was an avid New England Sports fan and absolutely loved the Boston Red Sox. You could find him relaxing on the porch overlooking the lake, playing his Trumpet, jamming along the with Bullfrogs to his favorite tunes. If you needed a good laugh, Tom had the perfect joke to make you smile. He will be missed by many for sure.
Tom is survived by his daughters Kathleen McSweeney of Granville MA, Kelly Diaz and he Husband Aaron Diaz of Westfield MA. Three Sisters, Diane Darin, Edith McSweeney and Linda Dexter. His Uncle Warren Roberge and his wife Mary Roberge. Many Nieces and Nephews, Steven, David, Andrea, Sarah, Mary and Matthew. His loving Companion Penny Annuik. And his Grandchildren brought who brought a smile to his face John, Karley, Abbey. A Celebration of Life will be held at the end of September for Family and Friends to gather. Date to be determined. Dennis J. McKenna, Sr. of Schooley’s Mountain, NJ passed away peacefully at home after a short illness on August 9, 2019.
He was born in Dover, NJ on February 17, 1936 to Felix and Lenore McKenna (Emerick). He was one of 11 children and pre-deceased by his parents and 8 of his siblings. Dennis graduated from Hackettstown High School in 1954 and entered as an apprentice into the Pipefitters/Steamfitters Union, now Local 274. He served in the US Army from 1955-1957. He enjoyed 21 years of retirement. Dennis was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Elizabeth J. McKenna (Meyer), his loving daughters Mary J. Demeo and her husband John, Tara A. Midili and her husband Thomas, his loving sons, Dennis J. McKenna, Jr and his wife Vilma, Blaine McKenna and his girlfriend Hollyce Schoepp, his adoring grandchildren, Samantha Midili, Olivia Midili, Audreik McKenna, Daniel McKenna, Alyssa McKenna and Ryan Demeo. He enjoyed the outdoors, roaming his property and spending time out by his brook. He had been a private pilot for many years. He also enjoyed metal detecting, scuba diving, boating, his many collections and spending time with his family. He adored his grandchildren. He was a member of the Long Valley Rescue Squad, Long Valley Fire Department and The Knights of Columbus. A visitation will be held on Tuesday August 13, 2019 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm at Cochran Funeral Home, 905 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ 07840. A mass will be held on Wednesday August 14, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of the Mountain Church, Schooley’s Mountain, NJ. Burial immediately following at Our Lady of the Mountain Cemetery. Joan Jacob (Cina), 86, of Hillsborough, New Jersey died peacefully on August 6, 2019.
Born in New York on June 9, 1933 to Peter and Eleanor (Beta) Cina. Joan was the loving wife to the late Lee Jacob. She resided in Hillsborough for 60 years. She worked for 18 years at Foothill Acres Rehabilitation Center as a Nurse’s Aide. Joan loved her morning coffee, tv dramas, ice cream, flowers, and most of all family time. Joan was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by her two sons. John Jacob (Carol) of Franklin Township, NJ and Peter Jacob (Missy) of Great Meadows, NJ. Joan is also survived by her 6 grandchildren: Shannon, Ariel, Eric, Laura, Thomas and Mary. She will be deeply missed by her family. Richard Pinto, 76, of Bronx, NY, passed away peacefully in the care of his loving daughter, Brenda Kay Standifer Perry, on July 29, 2019 in Carlisle, PA. Born December 12, 1942 in the Bronx, NY, “Richie” was the son of the late Salvatore and Jessie Pinto of Hackettstown, NJ.
Retired in 2003, Richie worked as a police officer in Bronx, NY for over 30 years obtaining the rank of Sergeant. Richie proudly served his country from 1964 - 1966 in The United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was awarded the following medals: National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal and Sharp Shooter. He is survived by his daughter, Brenda Kay Perry of Carlisle, PA; his daughter’s mother and lifelong friend, Judy Standifer of Dingman’s Ferry, PA; his lifelong companion, Kathleen (Kathy) Arroyo of Westchester, NY and her sons, Albert Arroyo (Yvonne) of Cape Coral, FL, Michael Arroyo (Ethel) of Chestnut Ridge, NY, and his four younger sisters, Dolores (Dee) Wernau of Hackettstown, NJ, Phyllis Zimmass (Heinz) of Waretown, NJ, Linda Hendershot (Raymond) of Parsippany, NJ and Angela Reed (William) of Hackettstown, NJ, as well as his grandchildren, great- grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was predeceased by his brother-in-law, John Wernau. The family would like to acknowledge the compassionate care given to Richie while staying at UPMC Carlisle Hospital, Carlisle, PA. Richie devoted his life to loving his very large extended family and lifelong friends. His kindness, wit and infectious smile will be missed by all. A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, August 10, 2019 from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm at the Cochran Funeral Home, 905 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ, 07840. He served in the Navy during the Vietnam War from 1969 to 1973. He was employed by AT&T as an Analyst. He is survived by his wife, Deborah (Carbon) Malachoski, and one sister, Linda Wesalowski.
