Howard W. Burd, 87, of Estero, Florida and formerly Hackettstown, NJ, passed away in Florida on Thursday, October 10, 2019. Born in Hackettstown, NJ on December 9, 1931, Howard was the son of the late Howard & Marie Benedict Burd. A wise business man, Howard was the founder and owner of the Intercounty Paving Company of Hackettstown and was well respected as a paving contractor among his peers. In addition to his business, Howard was a founding member and board director of the former Skylands Community Bank in Hackettstown. He was previously a member of the Hackettstown Rotary Club, a volunteer in the Hackettstown Rescue Squad and a member of the Knights of Columbus, Joyce Kilmer Council, all of Hackettstown. Howard was a devoted parishioner of St. Mary’s Church of the Assumption. An expert sailing captain, Howard navigated his sailboat “Blue Star” throughout the world and enjoyed entertaining his family and friends while on board. Mr. Burd is survived by his wife, Anne Hill Burd; two sons, Gary & Gregory Burd and one daughter, Michelle Burd Wilson. Three brothers, Ronald, Robert & Roger Burd. He is also survived by several loving grandchildren and great grandchildren. Howard is predeceased by his first wife, Dolores Kowalick Burd, a son David Burd and a grandson, Stephen David Anlas. Friends and family are invited to a period of visitation on Thursday, October 17, 2019 from 4:00 to 8:00pm at the Cochran Funeral Home, 905 High St., Hackettstown, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, 10:30am at St. Mary’s Church of the Assumption, Hackettstown, NJ. Interment will follow at the Union Cemetery, Hackettstown, NJ. Howard will always have a loving place in my heart. We had been close friends for 66 years. The times in Hackettstown and here in Florida is implanted in my memory of happy times. May the good Lord keep you safe and give you peace my friend.

So sorry to the entire Burd Family for the lost of a great man, I worked for him in 1969 after high school before going in business with my father in-law. I used him as a business role model and followed his honest approach to his customers and workers! He will be missed by many!

He was a wonderful loving man in our life ! And we know he is with God resting in Peace forever. We are so sorry to all of our family and friends who were also well connected to Howard in there lives !
