Harold W. “Bill” Sergent,Sr., 77 of Long Valley, NJ died Friday August 7th at the House of the Good Shepherd in Hackettstown, NJ. Born in Boonton, he is a son of the late Harold and Dorothy Dreager Sergent.
Bill was a lifelong resident of Long Valley. He worked for the Morris County Road Department for 36 years, retiring as the Assistant Superintendent of Roads. After his retirement from the county department, Bill worked for the Mine Brook Golf Club. Bill was a life member of the Schooley’s Mountain Fire Protection Association and the Schooley’s Mountain Presbyterian Church which is now the Highlands Presbyterian Church. He is also one of the founding members of the Long Valley Raiders Football Organization in Long Valley. Bill’s nickname was “Stumpy” which became the name of the former Stumpy’s Sports Pub in Independence Twp. Bill was predeceased by his beloved wife Betty Jane (Rooks) Sergent in 2010. He is survived by a son, Harold W. “Bill” Sergent,Jr. and his wife Marilyn, of Independence Twp. ; two daughters, Tammy L. Torres and Lisa A. Inza and her fiancée Joe Milelli all of Long Valley; also two grandchildren, Alexander and Amanda Inza. Friends may call on Monday August 10th from 4 – 8 pm at the Cochran Funeral Home 905 High Street,Hackettstown. The funeral service will be held at 10am on Tuesday August 11th at the Highlands Presbyterian Church, 3 Heath Lane, Schooley’s Mountain. Interment will follow in Pleasant Grove Cemetery. Rev. Dr. Thomas Armour, 84, of Bonita Springs, Fla, formerly of Hackettstown, NJ, passed away June 15, 2015 at the Avow Hospice in Naples, Fla. Born October 29, 1930 in Milwaukee, WI; he was the son of the late Charles A. & Bertha Schmidt Armour.
Pastor Armour and his beloved wife, Lois Froelich Armour have lived in Bonita Springs for the past 16 years coming from Hackettstown, NJ where he presided as Pastor of the Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Hackettstown for 31 years. Tom and Lois were married August 18, 1966 and together, raised their family in Hackettstown. Dr. Armour was a graduate of Concordia Seminary and was proud to have received his Doctorate at the age of 65 from Drew University in Madison, NJ. He served on numerous town and county boards while living in New Jersey including the Hackettstown Board of Education for over 14 years; an advisor the Lutheran Layman’s League, a 40 year member of the Mill Neck Family Lutheran Services to the Deaf of New York and was the director of senior ministries at Zion Lutheran Church, Ft. Meyers, Fla. In addition to his wife Lois, He is survived by two sons; David Armour and his wife Regina of Springfield, VA & James Armour and his wife Paula of Valparaiso, Indiana; Two daughters, Kristin Banse and her husband Kyle of Port Jervis, N.Y. & Karen Armour of Kernersville, NC. In addition, he is survived by 9 wonderful Grandchildren. Viewing hours will be Friday, 6-19-15 at the Cochran Funeral Home, 905 High St., Hackettstown, NJ, 07840 from 5pm to 8pm. Funeral Services will take place at Gethsemane Lutheran Church, 409 East Baldwin Street, Hackettstown, NJ on Saturday, 6-20-15 at 10:00am. Interment will follow at the Pequest Union Cemetery, Great Meadows, NJ.
