Mary Cathleen (Phelan) Hinton of Hackettstown, N.J. passed away Sunday, March 3, 2013, at Heath Village. Born in Morristown, N.J., Cathleen grew up in Boonton and lived in Mt. Olive and in Morristown for many years of her adult life. Cathleen graduated summa cum laude from The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C., where she majored in English Literature, with a focus on Shakespearean Studies. Cathleen taught second grade at Sacred Heart School in Rockaway, N.J. from the mid 1970s through the mid 1980s. Cathleen also worked at her husband's business, Douglas Cleaners in Morris Plains, and at the Morris View Nursing Home, before she retired in 2003. She enjoyed reading, especially mystery novels, and visiting with her children and grandchildren. Cathleen volunteered at the Mt. Olive Public Library when she was younger, and more recently wrote book reviews for the Heath Village library. Cathleen was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, and will be dearly missed by her family. Whatever task she undertook, she was thoroughly dedicated to.
Cathleen was preceded in death by her parents, James W. and Catherine D. (O'Brien) Phelan.
 
Cathleen is survived by her loving husband, Douglas R. Hinton; her daughter Elizabeth Edwards and her husband William, of Raleigh, N.C.; her daughter Rosemary Hluska and her husband Michael, of Needham, MA; her son David J. Lawless of Jersey City, N.J.; her grandchildren, William and Dylan Edwards and Nicholas and Madeline Hluska.
 
Viewing is Saturday March 9 from 1:00 to 3:00, with prayers at 3:00, at Cochran Funeral Home, 905 High Street,  Hackettstown, NJ 07840. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Arthritis Foundation or the Heath Village Friendship fund.

Doug and family so sorry to hear of Cathy's passing.My heart is saddened.She was a great lady.Loved writing back and forth.Great being with at diane and jerry's party on such a snowy night..and u guys were there..god bless.see you Saturday

Doug,Rosie,Betsy & David Iam so sorry for your loss and wish I could be there with you now during this time of sorrow. I am so happy that I was able to visit with her last a couple of times last week when I was in NJ and I know she was happy to see me. Love, Jean
