Howard R. Pennell, of Hackettstown, NJ Passed Away at Lyon’s Veteran’s Hospital in Basking Ridge NJ on Sunday December 1st following a long illness.  Born October 9th, 1947, Howard Grew up in the Landing section of Roxbury Twp and was a graduate of Roxbury High School.  Following High School, Howard proudly served his country as a US Marine from 1967-1971.  In 1968 Howard was severely injured in the line of duty.  After many surgeries and years of rehabilitation Howard was honorably discharged in 1971.   Upon discharge Howard enrolled at Fairleigh Dickenson University where he earned Bachelors of Science in Psychology.  He later went on to work for the Veteran’s Administration where he helped many other disabled veterans.  Howard was a man of faith and religion always looking to help others in need.  Even in death Howard donated to the NJ Sharing Network, an organization responsible for the recovery and placement of donated organs and tissue for those in need.

Howard is survived by his daughters, Barbara Kalmus & husband, Mitch of Long Valley, NJ,  Jennifer Gatzke & husband Steven of Hackettstown, NJ, Grandchildren Alexis Kalmus of Durham, NC, Jonathan & Madison Kalmus of Long Valley, NJ & Theresa Trebour & husband Jack of Saylorsburg, PA, and 2 great grandchildren, Jack and Giavanna.  Howard is also survived by his brother William of Cibola, Arizona, Kenneth of Pembroke, New Hampshire, Sisters, Anna Dreilling of Crossville, Tennesee,  Elaine Werner of Mt. Bethel, PA and Joanne Herrmann of Bunnell, Florida.

Friends & Family are invited to join us for Visit on Friday December 6th from 5:00pm - 7:00pm with the Service stating at 7:00pm at Cochran Funeral Home, 905 High Street, Hackettstown, NJ 07840.  The burial will be at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown, NJ on Thursday December 12.

So very sorry to hear of Howard’s passing. As an RHS classmate of his, I wish we had been able to connect with Howie over the years. He certainly lived a life of caring for and helping others. Sincere sympathies and prayers for his family.

I went through high school with Howard and remember him as a genuinely sweet guy. Sorry for your loss.

I'm so sorry to see this. Howie graduated with our class of 1967. I did not know him well but always thought he was a nice looking guy
