Laverty
 Christopher Aloysius Laverty - June 28, 2018.

Chris was born at a young age in Denville, NJ.  He spent his first five years in Dover before the family moved to Hackettstown.  Growing up the youngest of six children born to Jack and Ruth (Farrell) Laverty, Chris displayed his artistic talents by playing saxophone in the band, performing in plays, and singing in the chorus.  His interest in macrame resulted in countless ‘projects’ sharing our home.

Chris graduated from Hackettstown High School in 1984.  He spent his junior year as an exchange student in Rio de Janeiro, and mastered Brazilian Portuguese within three months.  That’s where his journey as a polyglot began.  Studying at Virginia Tech, he added Spanish, Russian, Japanese and Greek to his growing list of languages acquired.  While at Virginia Tech, Chris was a member of The New Virginians, singing and dancing for audiences up and down the east coast.

His first “real” job took him to Spain, teaching English to local businessmen ahead of the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona.  Subsequent stops in his professional career took him to Germany, Malaysia, Indonesia, Austria and Poland.  From these bases, he travelled extensively, and added Catalan, German, Viennese and Polish to his collection of lingual proficiencies.

In addition to his parents, Chris is survived by his siblings: Robin, JT (Cheryl), Timothy, William (Melissa) and Lynn Ann (John).  Chris enjoyed spending time with friends and family, especially his nieces and nephews: Liam, Ava, Trystam, Kristine, Kevin, Chris, Maia, Sara, Jack, Leah and Mark, and great nephew Logan.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Cochran Funeral Home.  Special thanks to Ann Edwards, the staff at Hackettstown Hospital, and Karen Ann Quinlan Hospice.

Leb wohl!

Condolences:

It was great knowing Chris Laverty during 10 EDS years in Vienna, Krakow and Warsaw. We worked most of that time in the same office, also we spent number of weekends like searching for rare coins on flea markets outside Vienna. or in Krakow. Chris was well known and adored for his spirit. I never actually met anyone like him, so alive. After Poland Chris just disappeared, Tried to contact him several times. Dear friend! My kids already know many stories about you Chris. Hoped to see you, but I felt its not possible. My deepest, warmest thoughts are with your family.

I adored Christoff who I knew through the past several years here and there. I loved being around him at the Trinity Thrift Shop and would run into him here and there. I changed my name (not legally) to Angela a couple of years back; and Christoff was the first to call me Angela. It was very meaningful. I will really miss you, Christoff. You are truly in my heart forever. Love, Angela

Chris was one person that --I thought about and wondered about so often! He was one of my very first friends. When my brother died in the early 70''s --Chris brought in SEASONS IN THE SUN for me and we played it over and over! His smile and his kindness will forever be held in my heart. I know he will Rest In Peace just as he lived!!!

My deepest sympathies to the entire Laverty family. Joan and Lynne I remember all the times we were discussing the "kids" as to where they were and what they were doing. Having lost a child myself I know how devastating a feeling it is. I hope you can rely on all the good memories you have with him. He certainly was a very accomplished man. Thinking of you during this time. Karen(Cunningham)Arnold

We shared a million stories and a million laughs. He was the funniest person I ever met - and absolutely brilliant. He was also the kindest - respectful of old people, nurturing to animals, fond of children - an all around great guy. He taught me how to love traveling when the world was a smaller and safer place. The world is certainly a sadder place today without him in it. My sympathy and prayers to his family.

Oh my goodness that face! I love that face and everything it's connected to. I was just heartbroken to hear of his passing. I consider myself ultra blessed to have known Chris. Such wit, such talent and such a kind soul. We had many, many wonderful times together and I missed him when he left the area on the adventures he was born to pursue. My mother would say to him "Oh, god love ya Christopher. Where are you going now?" and he would chuckle at her and say "I'm going abroad Patsy". I can still hear them chatting away. She loved him so as did the whole Clarke family. My sincerest condolences. Chris and the entire Laverty family will always be in my heart.
