Hammel
Dorothy E. Hammel of Hackettstown, Mansfield Township, NJ., passed away on Tuesday, August 9, 2016. She was 94 years of age, born in Brooklyn, NY, on January 31, 1922. She moved from New York to New Jersey when she was a one year old. She is survived by her two children, Patricia J. Minier, of Southwest Harbor, Maine and Philip E. Hammel, of Hackettstown, NJ., four grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren. She is also survived by her loving sister, Marian, age 93, of Stuart, Florida. She was the wife of Edwin A. Hammel, who passed away in 2004. They were happily married for 64 years. Dorothy and Ed were avid motorhomers, travelling to all of the contiguous United States. For many years she was active in PTA, Girl Scouts, and her children’s school activities. Her hobbies included sewing, counted cross-stitch, and knitting. She sewed her daughter’s wedding dress and made knitted baby caps for hospital newborns. She was a faithful member, and one time Deacon, of the First Presbyterian Church of Hackettstown. She loved God and was a true believer in our Lord Jesus Christ. Dorothy was truly loved by all her family, children, nieces and nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be truly missed. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in her name to the Building Fund of the First Presbyterian Church of Hackettstown, NJ.
